NALEDI II Double Taper Tuned Pipe (DTTP) Ultra-Low Bass Stereo Audiophile
Loudspeaker System
The Naledi is a visually stunning loudspeaker for the purist. It excels in
jazz, classical and vocal music and has oodles of bass. The DTTP (Double Taper
Tuned Pipe) design is a world first and provides a level of realism, involvement
and immediacy that compares with that of any loudspeaker, at any price.
UPDATE We have just made a small change to the Naledi. It's making us sit
down and listen to all our records, all over, as if we've never listened to them
before.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
Join two Voigt pipes back to back and open a port at the top of one of the
pipes and you have a DTTP. Inspired by the physics of tuned pipes on high
performance two-stroke engines and bolstered by a remarkable Kevlar driver
specially made for us in China, we have added another model to our growing list
of exceptional PHI loudspeakers. Simulations indicate a low frequency -3dB point
of 31Hz and a -10dB point of 20Hz for a 5 inch driver operated full range. We
have measured our first pair and the performance turned out much better than
expected - the lows falling within +/- 3dB down to 10Hz in room. Coupled with
very fast and crystal clear delivery, this loudspeaker excels on every level.
The speaker pictured above, is manufactured from solid Bubinga with slabs of
medium density fibre board on the inside of the front and rear baffles to
stabilise the wood and damp resonances. The pipes sound exceptionally clean and
play with an ease uncommon for any loudspeaker. Sensitivity turned out much
higher than expected - we attribute this to a very minimal crossover (only one
component) on the high sensitivity super tweeter. As is usual with PHI products,
the look of these units equals their performance.
