DEVELOPMENTS
PHI has three new loudspeakers under development. The final attributes may differ from what we're intending to attain, but here's an indication:
The new Naledi
Concept Drawing.
A 6 inch carbon fibre cone woofer plus two medium/high power paper cone fullrange drivers and a time-aligned supertweeter, in a Double Taper Tuned Pipe. 200W RMS at 93 to 95 dB per Watt. Ribbon/silk dome supertweeter (we still have to decide). Response should be from 28Hz to either 22kHz or 40kHz. Bipolar, as always, with a minimal first order serial crossover. Still only exists on paper, but we have a good feeling about it.
Three-driver Cyclops/downPHI®
A slightly higher powered and higher efficiency version of our popular downPHI® loudspeaker with two forward firing and one aft firing drivers. 60W RMS, 93dB per Watt at 1m. Sounds good, but the jury's still out..
A 400W monster pipe
An 8 inch carbon fibre and two high power ferrofluid cooled paper cone fullrange drivers with a ribbon supertweeter in either a folded TQWT (otherwise it's 3m tall) or a DTTP. Efficiency would be around 100dB per Watt. Bipolar, as most of our loudspeakers, with a minimal serial crossover. Response from about 27Hz to 40kHz for the folded TQWT and 18Hz to 40kHz for the DTTP. The downside of the DTTP is a length of just under 2.5 meter. But then it looks rather like the Naledi above..
The prototype sounds very promising and plays more than loud enough with a mere 3 or 4 Watt of input.
